Kai Frykman
My love affair with clay began many years ago. My mother and aunt were both artists and sculptors and my mother made sure we had many opportunities to play with clay. Many years later I studied ceramics with Bill Abright at College of Marin. Then I studied with Carol Fregoso and learned more sculpture techniques. My greatest joy is in taking a lump of clay with a preliminary idea of what I want to create and let my hands and the clay guide me in creating something, sometimes not always close to my original idea. There is something very grounding in translating ones feelings and concepts into clay, part of the very earth we live on.
There is always more to learn in ceramics as well, techniques in working with clay and decorating the object.
