Jomon
Jomon
This project was an exploration of coiling. Coiling is one of the oldest techniques for making pots, so I wanted to reach into my own ancestry and selected a study of a Jomon piece from Japanese history. Building the transition from the narrow pedestal to the wide bowl was a particularly difficult part of the work. This piece was the first I’ve done in red clay, so glazing was an exploration as well; I am pleased with the result.
